Manufacturing Engineer – Metals
ROLE
– Lead development of metal components across multiple manufacturing processes including welding, extrusion, machining, castings, sheet metal forming and deep drawing, laser cutting and bending
– Support development of EV-specific components such as cold plates, deep drawn tubs and enclosures, busbars and flexible busbars, structural and thermal management components
– Work closely with design teams to evaluate manufacturability and process feasibility
– Ensure components meet dimensional, cosmetic, structural and functional requirements
– Apply metallurgy fundamentals for material selection and process compatibility
– Evaluate weldability and material interaction between different alloys and processes
– Understand material behaviour during forming, welding and thermal cycles
– Support selection of materials and joining methods based on product and process requirements
– Drive development of advanced joining technologies such as Friction Stir Welding, Diffusion welding, Laser welding
– Work closely with supplier partners to develop manufacturing capability and process stability
– Support process setup, validation and production readiness at vendor facilities
– Conduct process audits, capability studies and manufacturability reviews
– Drive resolution of quality and process issues within aggressive project timelines
– Ensure suppliers implement robust controls for repeatability and traceability
– Understand and improve process capability for critical dimensions and features
– Drive process optimisation for quality, yield and throughput improvement
– Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for manufacturing issues
– Introduce best practices and standardisation across suppliers and processes
REQUIREMENTS
– Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
– Minimum 5 years of experience in metal manufacturing, fabrication or supplier process development
– Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including welding, extrusion, machining, casting, sheet metal forming
– Strong metallurgy fundamentals and understanding of material compatibility and weldability
– Experience working with suppliers and external manufacturing partners
– Understanding of process capability, validation and manufacturing scale-up
– Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
– Ability to manage quality and delivery expectations under challenging timelines
– Experience in EV battery pack, thermal systems or power electronics manufacturing
– Exposure to advanced joining technologies such as Friction Stir Welding or Diffusion Welding
– Experience with aluminium alloys, copper busbars and thermal management systems
– Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack-up and DFM/DFA principles
– Understanding of APQP, PFMEA and manufacturing quality systems
