Sr. Quality Engineer
Sr. Quality Engineer
Refined job description
ROLE
– Monitor and control quality across SMT, THT, assembly, soldering, testing and final inspection, ensuring adherence to Quality Control Plans, SOPs and inspection standards through regular process audits and layered checks.
– Maintain daily in‑house rejection and rework data, prepare Pareto and trend charts by product, process, defect type and line, and drive corrective action on recurring issues.
– Track internal, process and customer PPM, maintain product‑wise dashboards and coordinate with Production, Process Engineering and Supplier Quality to close gaps against targets.
– Own rework traceability and disposition of rejected boards, and troubleshoot failed PCBs, BMS and chargers using visual inspection, multimeter, oscilloscope, solder joint checks and functional testing to identify failure modes.
– Support the Customer Quality team on customer complaints and field failure analysis, participate in RCA, 8D and CAPA activities, and provide data and evidence needed for customer responses and visits.
– Lead structured problem solving using 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, 8D and Fault Tree Analysis, validate root causes with data and physical evidence, and ensure corrective actions are deployed across similar products and processes.
– Maintain accurate quality databases, build daily, weekly and monthly dashboards covering FPY, rejection percentage, rework percentage, COPQ and complaint status, and use Excel Pivot Tables for analysis and reporting.
– Work closely with Production, Process Engineering, Test Engineering, Design, Supplier Quality, NPI and EMS partners to identify issues independently and drive actions to closure.
– Ensure lessons learned from customer complaints are incorporated into in‑process controls.
– Drive reduction in in‑house and customer PPM, improve first‑pass yield, and reduce rejection and rework percentages.
– Achieve timely RCA, 8D and CAPA closure with elimination of repeat defects and improve process compliance across manufacturing lines.
REQUIREMENTS
– B.E., B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
– 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in in‑process quality, manufacturing quality or customer quality support, preferably in electronics, automotive, EV or EMS manufacturing.
– Strong hands‑on experience with PCB and PCBA quality, failure analysis and root cause analysis.
– Good working knowledge of the 7 QC tools: 5 Whys, Fishbone, Pareto Analysis, 8D and CAPA.
– Practical understanding of SMT and THT processes, soldering defects and electronic component handling.
– Excellent analytical, communication and documentation skills; ability to work independently and across functions.
– Strong command of Excel for data analysis, dashboards and Pivot Tables.
– Experience with ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality management systems.
– Working knowledge of FMEA, Control Plan, SPC, MSA and Poka‑Yoke.
– Exposure to APQP and PPAP concepts and IPC standards.
– Certification or training in 8D, IATF 16949, Six Sigma or similar quality methodologies.
– Background in EV, BMS, EV charger, automotive electronics or power electronics manufacturing.
– Willingness to travel to EMS and customer locations when required.
